Smoothie Madness

I love a good smoothie for breakfast, so here's a few of my favorites. To make, combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Dragonfruit and Banana

1/2 banana, frozen (about 5oz)

1/2 cup red dragonfruit, frozen (about 2oz)

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

2/3 cup plain Greek yogurt

Chocolate Espresso Shake

1 banana, frozen

2 dates, pitted (or honey if that's what you have on hand)

1 scoop chocolate protein powder (preferred brand, or you can use a chocolate sauce)

2 shots espresso

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Spinach (this will make it a weird color, but it adds some iron and other nutrients in)

Classic Banana Strawberry

1 banana, frozen

1 - 1 1/2 cups sliced strawberries, frozen if you want a creamy texture

1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

2/3 cup plain greek yogurt

I never really liked smoothies when I was younger. For some reason I always thought "if I'm going to have to eat fruit, I might as well eat it in it's whole form." As an adult, I see the appeal. I always have several bags of frozen fruit in the freezer, and almond milk and Greek yogurt in the fridge, so throwing some stuff into a blender and coming out with a quick healthy snack I can take on the go is really really nice. I use unsweetened almond milk more often for smoothies and most other things because I have a slight lactose intolerance and honestly, I'm not giving up cheese so I'll gladly give up milk to deal with it (anyone else with me here or am I the only one making these silly compromises with my own body). If you like milk, and your body doesn't disagree, feel free to use your regular milk. I'm not sure it will change the flavor too much because most of these smoothies are well flavored with the fruits. I also don't sweeten things much more, I personally feel like these recipes are plenty sweet enough for me, but if you need them a little sweeter, add in some honey to the two fruit smoothies, and another date in the espresso smoothie. Hope you all enjoy!
